Ant Pearce is an emerging British artist. He comes from a background in biochemistry and IT. He worked in the City of London as a senior business consultant for more than ten years before embarking on a life within the visual arts. After completing an intensive course at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, he enrolled in 2010 on the MA Visual Arts course at Camberwell College of Arts, graduating with Merit in late 2012. He has shown work in London and the UK, Europe and the US. His practice is based in London.

His practice focuses on the concept that man is condemned to exist imprisoned. Through his work he explores the fragility of life, drawing on human psychology. Influenced by Freud’s theories and the writings and philosophies of Dostoyevsky, Kafka and Camus, his work alludes to the idea that the omnipresent external authority is what brings about man’s aberrant destructive behaviours.

Colette Standish's artwork presents the tensions that exist between opposites, centering around masculine and feminine, animus and anima. She uses the body as a point of reference, using blank space in the human form to evoke a spiritual presence and present the plane where tensions reside, at times invisible to the human eye. Her interactions with opposing forces cause her images to fragment offering a perceived balance and harmony of tension and the resulting discomfort.

I draw inspiration from a range of sources, such as archaeology, artifacts, geology, landscape and plant matter.

My process comprises of an eclectic mix of adding and subtracting: controlling the medium yet allowing the accidental. I work in layers, creating then obscuring , revealing then hiding.

Painting surfaces are constantly multi-layered and renewed. This process-orientated method of constant re- defining allows a subject’s essence to reveal itself in its own time.

Unlike, the trained ballerina to follow intricate, choreograhic patterns, the painting upholds no pattern; it boasts no set path. Rather, it's structured inconsistencies reveal a choatic frenzy often present within a more primitive form of dance.
